What’s a moment with Community First Development that’s stayed with you?
One moment that has stayed with me was sitting on Country with Elders, families, and young people gathered in a circle around the fire. The Elders shared their wisdom, the children spoke of their dreams, and laughter wove through the evening as people mapped out what mattered most for their future.
It wasn’t just a meeting — it was culture, connection, and community in action. That night reminded me that every voice has a place, from the oldest to the youngest, and that the true strength of Community First Development lies in creating space for those voices to lead.
What stays with me is the spirit of those moments — listening, respecting, and walking alongside communities. Together, they tell the bigger story of resilience, pride, and hope that CFD has been part of for 25 years.
What real change have you seen through our work together?
The real change I’ve seen through our work together is communities stepping forward with confidence in their own voices, their own knowledge, and their own way of creating the future. I’ve seen Elders’ wisdom honoured, young people encouraged to dream big, and families working together with pride.
What has shifted most is the sense of self-determination — communities leading the way, setting the agenda, and knowing that their stories and solutions are valued. That change is lasting because it grows from culture, connection, and respect.
What are your hopes for future generations?
My hope for future generations is that they grow strong in culture, confident in who they are, and proud of where they come from. I hope they inherit not just the stories of resilience, but also the opportunities created through the hard work of communities and the support of organisations like Community First Development.
I want future generations to feel empowered to shape their own paths, grounded in Country and culture, with their voices always respected and heard. Most of all, I hope they continue to walk together in strength, building futures where community, culture, and connection remain at the heart of everything.
Reflecting on 25 years…
As I think back on Community First Development’s 25-year journey, I feel deep gratitude for the way this organisation has always walked alongside communities, not in front of them. I had the privilege of being part of that journey, working on Country with Elders, families, and young people, and seeing firsthand how self-determination and cultural knowledge can shape strong futures.
For me, the true strength of CFD has always been in the relationships built — relationships grounded in respect, listening, and shared action. I’ve seen communities map out their own futures based on what matters to them most, and I’ve seen how CFD has stood beside them, providing the space, tools, and encouragement to make those visions real. This milestone is not just about the past, but about the path forward — honouring the voices that have led us here and continuing to build pride, inspiration, and opportunity for the next generations.
I carry with me the lessons learned from those years: that change is strongest when it grows from community, culture, and connection. Congratulations on 25 years, and thank you for allowing me to be part of the story.
